Keynote

Eric Mack, "Prints, Pigments and Plants"

Eric is an artist with a passion for gardening who discovered that the two worlds can harmoniously be integrated into classroom rubrics to stimulate new ideas, aid in classroom management, and be used in a cross-curricular way that helps to differentiate learning styles among students.

Over the years, Eric has found ways to incorporate construction and engineering practices into the visual arts curriculum. With the use of paper templates and students’ favorite video game characters, instructors can teach valuable lessons in geometry while engaging with them on their own level of interest. Even students who may not feel as confident in their art-making techniques can find ways to shine and learn problem-solving skills that can last a lifetime.

Lessons in Natural Science play a large part in STEAM-based education. Pigments can be sown from seed and produced from a variety of plants such as Madder, Japanese Indigo, Marigold, Coreopsis, and Amaranth. Join us in this shared conversation as Eric presents ideas and more based on unconventional ways to incorporate the arts and sciences, including how young creatives can learn from the process and the trial and error involved in germinating plants from seed and stem cuttings.
