Craig King is the Chairman & Co-Founder of Rap Plug Academy and Rap Plug Live. King is an honoree of the Lifetime Achievement Award from President Barack Obama for his philanthropy with youth. King attended Howard University where he majored in jazz and classical piano. During his sophomore year he was recruited to perform with Ray Charles for "The Black Requiem Tour" conducted by Quincy Jones. From there King went on to work on many Grammy award-winning albums, soundtracks, television shows, commercials, tours and award ceremonies (Kanye West, Ludacris, Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith, Aaliyah etc.).
A newly appointed member of 100 Black Men of Atlanta class of 2022, King has also been named one of AT&T’s Black Future Makers. King has partnered with serial entrepreneur Rick Ross and Co-Founder Branden Criss and global companies like AT&T Dream In Black, Apple Music, Ford (Produced Two Roll On Sister Commercials), Google, Microsoft, T-Mobile, Nike, Apple Music, BET, SXSW, Comcast Universal, Revolt, iHeart Radio + many more.
2:00-2:30 p.m. - Walking tour of the EcoCommons
The EcoCommons consist of three living landscape areas to meet the goals of Learn, Engage and Reflect. Georgia Tech is practicing thoughtful stewardship of the land by joining it with smart infrastructure. Sensors embedded throughout the EcoCommons support ecological education and research. The EcoCommons demonstrate Georgia Tech’s commitment to fostering sustainability initiatives into the 21st century.

This workshop will be a lightning-round style PD, focused on education technology tools used inside the classroom.
2:50 - 3:50 p.m. - STEAM Workshops (Select 1 during online registration)
Workshop 1 - Fibonacci Flowers and the Golden Ratio
This workshop will feature a hands-on exploration of the mathematical Fibonacci series through the examination of flowers and other plants. Teachers will closely examine and record the structure of common flowers, develop hypotheses about their functions, and explore the emergence of the phenomenon of the Golden Ratio found throughout nature. Experts from Georgia Tech's Center for Biologically Inspired Design (CBID) and the Atlanta Botanical Gardens will lead teachers on their discovery and will connect that experience to student lesson plans available through the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and Zoo Atlanta. Teachers will leave with the first-hand experience necessary to successfully implement discovery-based lesson plans for elementary, middle and high school students across a number of math, science and engineering standards.
Workshop 2 - STEAM In Elementary Classrooms
Technology in the classroom is integral to enhancing student learning so starting early is a must! In our 1st and 2nd grade classrooms at Tuskegee Airmen Global Academy, students are assigned design projects that build on their STEM lessons and pull from real-world issues. Using digital technologies and electronic devices such as BBC MicroBits, TinkerCAD, and Adafruit NeoPixels, students implement creative thinking that integrates the arts with technology to solve everyday problems that impact their community. Laptop recommended.
Workshop 3 - Art and AI: Enhancing Classroom Engagement
Art, science, and technology merge to show educators how Artificial Intelligence can be accessible for your students and be used to support your standards. This STEAM workshop will introduce you to the foundations of Midjourney, an AI (artificial intelligence) program that creates images from textual descriptions. Use your knowledge from various scientific fields to create intriguing visualizations, making the process of teaching and learning more personal, exciting, and memorable. Laptop required
3:50 - 5:00 p.m. - Georgia Tech Science and Engineering Day (Optional Activity)
Members of the Georgia Tech community are opening their doors for the Atlanta Science Festival! Whether you’re interested in robotics, brains, biology, space, art, nanotechnology, paper, computer science, wearables, bioengineering, chemical engineering, or systems engineering, there will be activities for you! Visit campus for hands-on STEAM activities, exhibits, demonstrations, opportunities to meet student researchers, learn about the research, and so much more happening at Tech!
5:00 - 5:30 p.m. - Music Tech Fair (Optional Activity)
Get a sneak peek at what goes into the latest in music technology by visiting our music, art and technology fair. We'll have all sorts of amazing instruments for you to play and explore. See musicians, artists, engineers, and makers showcase their latest work at this hands-on, interactive showcase.

The Guthman Musical Instrument Competition is one of the only competitions of its kind - an event dedicated to identifying the newest and greatest ideas in music. Every year, we invite musical inventors from around the world to share their creations and ideas about the future of music.
